How to order
Frequently asked questions
- It’s a rice-sized radio-frequency identification device (RFID)
- It’s not a GPS-tracking device
- It contains a unique number associated with your pet
- Once registered, it improves your pet’s chances of getting home quickly if they ever go missing
24Petwatch microchips meet ISO standards (11784 and 11785) and ICAR certifications:
- Manufacturing – code structure and microchip frequency
- Chip Numbering – unique chip number creation, no duplication
When purchasing microchips, be cautious of microchips that are not ICAR-certified or do not meet ISO standards.
ICAR is an international, non-governmental organization that promotes the development and improvement of animal identification. This objective is achieved by establishing definitions and guidelines for Radio Frequency Identification devices (RFIDs) like pet microchips.
24Petwatch chips have dedicated (unshared) prefixes: 982 and 941. Over 5,000 partner organizations trust our chips, which offer the very best microchip technology available.
“900” microchips are available at low costs and in large quantities, which makes them compelling for some microchip sellers. They often come from overseas manufacturers, are challenging to track, and are not attached to legitimate microchip registries. These microchips do a disservice to pet parents as they are unreliable in ensuring the pet makes it home after becoming lost.
Be aware that some microchips have a shared prefix. A shared prefix means that multiple sellers offer microchips with the same prefix. This can make identifying the seller and accessing their contact information more time-consuming.
