Orange County Animal Services has utilized Chameleon for the past 20 years. For those in the animal welfare field, you know we’re always looking for “new,” always looking to improve our processes and procedures. At various points over those past two decades we have looked at other software options for animal tracking and we always come back to Chameleon.

We have found it to be the best of the competitors and the best at meeting our needs. OCAS is the municipal shelter serving the greater Orlando area, with 1.4 million residents and an average shelter intake around 14,000 animals. We have 110 full-time employees, all of which utilize Chameleon to varying degrees. Our team includes enforcement operations, kennel management, clinic and communications, which handles our adoptions, foster care and rescue placements. We utilize Chameleon for issuing citations, entering behavior notes, scheduling for spay/neuter surgery, emailing rescue partners with individual animal information, and of course everything in between.

As a manager, the thing I treasure most about Chameleon is the potential for customization of reports. We are fortunate to have a Business Systems Analyst on staff who has an invaluable knowledge of the way Chameleon operates, and works closely with their team. She has developed countless reports specific to our way of operating that make each and every day easier for our staff and for the public. These reports include an automated morning “daily snapshot” so we can check key parameters at the start of each day, an “adopter review report” which pulls data from multiple various screens to provide our front desk staff an overview of essential information for the person in front of them and their eligibility to adopt and a “411” report that we make available to our public, listing all available dogs, their pictures, lengths of stay and other information. These reports are just a handful of the many we use on a daily basis and it’s amazing to see how the data entered into Chameleon can be manipulated and presented in a way to streamline operations, improve accuracy and ultimately accomplish more in the same set of eight hours.

Montgomery County Animal Services (“MCAS”) has been a long-standing Chameleon customer and we appreciate that Chameleon continues to look for ways into improve/add to their software to help streamline and automate daily operations.

For example, by utilizing ScanIT we have significantly decreased data entry errors while also decreasing the time required for data entry. Microchip Lookup has allowed us to more quickly, accurately look up and link owners for microchipped animals brought to our Shelter. No more manually creating 300-500 emails with medical records attached after one of our large-scale vaccine events. Longstanding application PostMaster to the rescue by fully automating this process and sending the emails with not user intervention needed.

I would be remiss to not mention the unparalleled customer service this is included FREE with Chameleon. You need a new report made? No problem. You need help creating a new PostMaster job?
